" It turns out that this God Image within each person remains fundamentally undamaged, regardless of the amount of abuse or neglect or trauma that the individual may have suffered, and no matter what kinds of unhelpful coping strategies they have developed." - Altogether You by Jenna Riemersma, LPC
I obtained a master's in clinical health psychology from Bastyr University. It was a unique degree that combined a focus of treating mental health disorders with nutrition. At the time, I was struggling with my own lack of self-worth, and I thought the answer was in learning more about health. While I walked away with knowledge of nutrition and the human body, I didn't fully heal until I accepted that my worth comes from the image of God placed in me since birth. Utilizing both therapeutic modalities of Lifespan Integration and Internal Family Systems, I was able to heal from the burdens that my childhood parts were carrying. I now know that my true self is the God-image at my core that welcomed and healed my broken parts.
I am passionate about helping people from all walks of life increase their self-worth and mental health through a better understanding and experience of God in their life. I love helping clients understand that their burdened parts are broken and need healing, but they are not the part of our God image at our core.
During the intake, we look at your mental health history, but also your family culture's beliefs and values around faith. Many clients who feel stuck in their goals have parts of them from childhood who are burdened and holding on to old belief patterns or memories.
I want counseling with me to be informative and safe. I offer a non-judgmental space where you can ask questions, share your barriers, and explore questions you haven't felt safe enough to process with someone. I am client-centered, and the goals we focus on in sessions are created together and progress is tracked either weekly or bi-weekly.
